AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination)

What Is The AVID Class?
AVID is an elective course at Kaiser High School to prepare students in the academic "middle" for four-year college-readiness! There are students who may be falling short of their potential that can benefit from this program. The elective course is based on "WICOR"-Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization & Reading. We work with students to maximize their potential while strengthening these critical skills for a successful future. The elective course supports students tackling the most rigorous courses we offer in the Advance Placement classes as well as the IB Diploma and Career-Related Programs.

Who are AVID Students?
AVID students are intellectually capable of tackling tough courses but may be lacking the know-how. These students take on the challenges of the International Baccalaureate Diploma & Career Related Programs, and Advance Placement courses, by using the academic skills they gain from the elective class. This course is taught by an AVID trained teacher and taught within the school day. The three main components of the program are academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities. Their self-images improve and they become academically successful leaders and role models for other students. They are proud to be in the program. AVID students become a part of a family, supporting and encouraging each other to achieve their highest potential.
