Vera Wang - Hawaiʻi District Science Fair U.S Air Force Award Winner

Vera Wang won the United States Air Force Award and a place in the Hawaiʻi State Science and Engineering Fair!

Vera’s motivation for the project was her observation of aquatic microplastic clean-up devices and solutions were being constructed of the culprit itself – plastic. So instead, she utilized coconuts, which are abundant here in Hawai’I, and using the husks, fiber, and jute twine, she constructed a natural filtration device to capture microplastics. In her words, it is “A novel and sustainable solution that uses natural biodegradable materials.”

Ho’omaika’i Vera and we will be cheering you on at the State Science Fair!
