Kaiser is offering another career starter for students interested in Optometry Assistant Training & Apprenticeship. This is a paid apprenticeship with one course taught on Kaiser’s campus by a KCC instructor with the option to start your apprenticeship this summer 2020. KCC will assist in connecting the students to various vision clinics between here and Kaimuki. Students must provide their own transportation. The cost for this Career Start is $2,300, but students who are employed by an ophthalmologist/vision clinic or can show proof of a firm job offer in an optometry office before courses begin may qualify for a $2,000 subsidy; thus, making students’ tuition costs $300 (includes textbooks). Course information and application here.

Lastly, the third career starter is for students interested in becoming a Community Health Worker. This sequence of college credit courses is open to students of the classes of 2021 and 2022. The 5 courses equate to 16-college credits. We are awaiting the decision to receive Early College Program funding. With funding approved, the tuition range will change from $393-$524/student to $0-$150/student for each of the 5 courses.  Additional book costs may be required. Classes will begin on our Kaiser campus starting fall of 2020. Course information and application here.
