COUGAR MATH TEAM ENDS SEASON IN 4TH PLACE
Kaiser's math team season in the Oahu Math League concluded on April 18th at Kalāheo, following visits to schools across Oahu, and a home meet at Kaiser. Ultimately, Kaiser placed 4th in the meet, earning the extra point for a 4th place finish for the year! In terms of individual awards, Xiaolong Cong had a 29/30 season average while Leonard Cheung had a 28.8/30 average, landing them in the top 10 for average scores across the state. The outgoing President, Leonard Cheung, would like to add. “I truly enjoyed representing Kaiser for three years, and the emotions I experienced throughout, both the highs and lows, really stuck with me and helped me mature as both a student and mentor. Entering into the team, I believed math to be a chore. But the longer I stayed, math evolved into a passion. It was unbelievable, being able to challenge students across the state for the top honors, and finally realizing that dream in my last year. Visiting other schools and the snacks were excellent bonuses too. Of course, I have to thank our advisors, Ms. Yamamoto, Mr. Oshiro, and Mr. Lai Hipp, the Kaiser math department, and all of my teammates, for making practices/meets the highlights of my week (and to our parents for driving us around). And to the people who hooked me in and kept me there: Ethan Nguyen, Jesse Xu, Logan Leong, Marcus Cho, Kiley Freitas, and Vera Wang. You guys made it all worth it!”
