Hawaiʻi High School Journalism Awards 2018

On April 18th, the Hawaiʻi High School Journalism Awards was held at the Pagoda Hotel. The annual ceremony is hosted by the Hawaiʻi Publishers Association and sponsored by the Honolulu Star Advertiser and Midweek.

Recipients of IB Diploma Programme Scholarships

On Tuesday, Apriil 3rd, the class of 2020 presented their IBMYP Personal Project in the cafeteria. The following students were awarded $500 scholarships to apply towards their IB Diploma Programme fees:

Hawaiʻi State Science Fair, March 28 - 30

 
Students Julian Li Vadera (12), Brandon Nguyen (10), and Ryan Nguyen (9) competed in the Hawaii State Science and Engineering Fair on March 28-30.  Here are the results of competition:
 
Julian Li Vadera:  Project titled: "Every Last Drop" - 1st Place Award from the Department of Health, Safe Water Drinking Branch
 
Ryan Nguyen:  1st Place Overall Best in Category (Biomedical and Health Sciences), $25 from the American Chemical Society (Hawaii Section), $500 from the Queen's Health Systems, Certificate of Award from the U.S. Army - Tripler Army Medical Center.
 
Brandon Nguyen:  2nd Place Overall Best in Category (Cellular and Molecular Biology).
 
Garrett Hatakenaka: $500 from the Queen's Health Systems (Teacher award matched with student winner).
 
Additionally, Brandon Nguyen and Ryan Nguyen will compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburg, PA from May 14-18 and represent the State of Hawaii along with other District and State winners.  Mr. Hatakenaka will travel with the Hawaii Delegation as a chaperone.

Wyatt Sands participates in Bataan Memorial Death March 

26 Miles of High Desert, 26 Miles of Pure Perseverance 
 
On March 25, 2018, Wyatt Sands, class 2018, participated in the 29th Annual Bataan Memorial Death March (White Sands Missile Range, NM), 3/25, completing the 26.2 mile (40km) March in full uniform - representing Kaiser High School,  marching for fallen warriors, and honoring Bataan survivors.
 
The memorial march is conducted in honor of the heroic service members who defended the Philippines during WWII, sacrificing their freedom, health and in many cases - their lives.
